Spanning Backup for G Suite has been updated to use OAuth 2.0, Google's new standard of authentication and authorization. Beginning in April of 2015, Google will no longer support OAuth 1.0.
G Suite domain users:
Administrators will receive an email from Google once the migration has completed stating that you may need to accept new permissions. There are five things you need to do to accomplish this:
1. Do you have API Access turned on for your domain?
2. Is Allow users to install Google Drive apps enabled?
3. Is Contact Sharing enabled?
4. Is Data Access granted to Spanning Backup?
5. Enabling Spanning Backup to be ON For Everyone
1. API Access-
*Log into your Admin Console, go to Security and click on API Reference.
*Confirm that you have API Access enabled. The "Enable API access" box should be checked as in the screenshot below. If it is unchecked, please check this box and save your change.
*It's important that you access the Spanning Backup License Manager and refresh your user list once you've enabled the API access setting.
2. Enable Google Drive apps-
*Log into your Admin Console, Select Apps > G Suite > Drive and Docs > Data Access
*Confirm that you have "Allow users to install Google Drive apps" enabled, in the 'Drive SDK' sub-heading. The "Allow users to install Google Drive apps" box should be checked as in the screenshot below. If it is unchecked, please check this box and save your change.
3. Contact Sharing-
*Log into your Google Admin Console.
*Go to Apps > G Suite > Contacts > Sharing Settings > Contact Sharing.
*Make sure that "Enable contacts sharing" is enabled.
4. Data Access-
*Log into your Google domain admin user account.
*Navigate to the URL below using your web browser, which will take you to the Spanning Backup app page in your Google Console:
https://admin.google.com/
Alternatively, you can navigate to the Spanning Backup settings page by following the steps below:
*Log into your Google Admin Console (admin.google.com)
*Select Apps
*Select Marketplace Apps
*Select Spanning Backup
*If you see that "Data access" has already been granted (pictured below), you don't need to make any changes and can skip the rest of this upgrade guide.
*If "Data access" has not been granted (Approval Needed), you'll need to click the "Grant data access" link as shown circled in red below:
*Once "Data access" shows "Granted", you're all done and the Spanning Backup update is complete.
5. ON For Everyone-
In your Google Admin Console, Spanning Backup needs to be set to 'ON For Everyone', so that Spanning can have full access to back up the data in your account. Please remember that enabling this option doesn't mean that all users in your domain will be receiving daily backup from Spanning (as selecting the users to receive backup occurs in the Spanning License Manager), but enabling this option simply allows Spanning full access to back up the data in your user's account. To enable this setting, follow these steps:
*Log into your Google Admin Console (admin.google.com)
*Select Apps
*Select Marketplace Apps
*Select Spanning Backup
*Ensure that the setting is 'ON for everyone' (as shown below). If it shows 'On for some organizations', please update this setting.
